THE DEVELOPER

Life  Background

My name is Gilbert Fernandez and I was was born in Chapala, Mexico where I utilized my child hood creating small businesses and began my entrepreneurial journey. My business mentality began at the age of eight when I creatively came up with ideas to make money because my family had only enough for necessities. For Instance, I would collect left-over soap bars, and put the bars of soap into a bottle with water, and with a firm shake, have liquid soap.  I used the liquid soap along with old white ripped shirts which I had bleached to shine shoes nearly to perfection.  If the shoe was black, I would have special black ink that I made creating the perception of a brand new product. People loved what I did with their shoes. This was one of my first small businesses!

In another old memory, I acquired free left-over tire inner-tubes from the tire repair shop, patched and repaired the inner-tubes, and rented them out at the town beach, along with umbrellas and refreshments. I had the only  business on the beach. Other people began to emulate these services but it was fine because we started a trend which made me feel  great and gave me a sense of purpose. Basically, I grew-up seeking work opportunities, worked with the materials that I acquired, and produced an income while having fun, growing, and learning.

I acquired this trait from my mother (Leticia) who was a practical and caring woman. She was a local chef teacher for the federal government. She taught people how to make delicious yet inexpensive recipes for low income families.  It was a passion of hers. My mother made a small business in which I helped her make and sell Mexican bread.  I remember waking up at 5:00 a.m. everyday to help my mother make warm bread. I was the salesman of her small business products, and went door to door every morning selling bread.  We sold out everyday by six in the evening.  However, it was the taste that truly sold the bread.  I understood at an early age that quality is just as important if not, more important as price.  I learned the concept of money and return on investment , and with that I used to grow the business by purchasing higher quality ingredients along with packaging.  It was nothing but young-fun to me, and it was integrated into my childhood characterisitcs.  I considered this as my play-time, because working stimulates me.

When I was 16 years old, I made a major transition with my parents  to move to the United States.  It was a frightening feeling.  However, I was a driven young person, and pursued an ambitious journey.  Despite a new environment, and language barrier, I adapted quickly.  I became Americanized, and learned to speak fluent English.  While living in Fresno, California I acquired many hard labor jobs such as washing dishes, cleaning floors, and working agricultural positions.  By the age of 22, I acquired the opportunity to take a delivery route job for Tortias Inc., and exceeded the Owner's expectations.  I quickly began managing many different routes at the same time which enhanced  my managing skills.  Despite all of the variables, barriers, and obstacles (time, money, contact, etc.) in my work / life path.  I was extremely focused, and determined to not allow any of those factors to prevent me from being a successful person.

I met my wife in Fresno, CA.  I was 19 and we were married in Fresno, CA and we now have four children (Gilbert III, Cruz, Brasstiney, Brizza).  When we arrived in the Bay Area, we knew no one, had very little money. The only material we owned were our clothes, and a beat up vehicle.  I became a salesman for Sysco Foods Inc., selling quality food to local restaurants.  I became a nominee for Rookie of the Year for my fast progress, and progressive sales volume.  I very much appreciate Sysco Foods for all of the special training, professionalism, focus, and opportunity they provided.

I became interested in lot-spiting, add-on construction, and new construction in the late 1990's while working with a local builder. I expanded my personal knowledge of information, experience, and education as I worked during the day, attended late night classes, and studied during all extra time on the weekends.  I am greatly appreciative of all of the opportunities that have occurred in my real estate construction career, and family.  I built my first home with my own money, in 2000.  At this time of my life, I feel like I have purpose, and I believe in the results of my labor.  It was, from the beginning of my life, a life of having hopes, fulfilling dreams, understanding / eliminating fears, working with people, true purpose, and providing quality  real estate construction  for my clients.  Since the year 2000, I have built over 100+ homes. I have been living one of my deepest purposes ever since.

Gilbert's Builder Background

My new construction, remodeling, rebuilding, major remodeling, add-on room additions, landscaping, etc. experiences are noted around the Bay Area.  In addition, I built a night club called The Sabor Tapa Bar & Lounge in down town San Jose, and that continued to 2008.  With the 2008 recession, like with most people, I lost nearly everything.  However, my vision and will power not only carried me through, but greatly strengthen me, and my family as well.  Despite the economic "Great Recession", I was able to identify and execute opportunity in the 2008.  I re-gathered new information, re-formulated new strategic business plans, created a new foundation for my business that is based in results, and formed a new brand.  I began to seek, and locate new investors that could see and understand the same opportunities that I was able to locate, and procure.  Through trial and error, optimistic perception and the drive for success, I have the ability to transform matters, and develop property.  Some of my home developments have won awards, such as the Spanish style home in Willow Glen, California.

As a General Contractor / real estate Developer, I focus mainly in the Greater Bay Area.  My business has grown rapidly, the scale of my projects are enlarging, and the amount of homes I am building is increasing.  Primarily, this is due to my competency and skills in managing, planning, organizing, controlling, leading, communicating, and dedication to hard work, because I truly have fun and love building / remodeling homes.  Despite all of the obstacles that Builders encounter, I believe in the process in finding, acquiring, and improving land and building structures through team-work, great partnerships, and clients that are motivated to produce, gain, and enjoy.  I know what it takes to do well in a bad economy, and great in a good economy!  The results speak for themselves (property locations and references available upon request).  The day is not over until it is over, and making "matters" more qualified, is my nature!
